Too often, we are surprised by governmental action: a new commercial development breaks ground, a stop light is installed, road repairs are delayed. We as citizens need to know what is being done with our tax dollars, so we can have meaningful input to those decisions.
The current supervisor is difficult to contact and when a promise is made, it is not carried out. When I am your supervisor, we will have weekly office hours in the district – preferably at the Rancho clubhouse – where we will discuss current issues before the Board.
With Board meetings currently held most Tuesday mornings, weekly meetings later in the week will allow me to summarize the issues at hand, both what was decided at the past meeting and what is coming up for the following one.
District 5 constituents will have a better understanding as to why the Board made decisions in the prior meeting and will have a voice in what is being decided at the next one. If there is an issue we want to study and put forward as an action item, we can set up District 5 ad hoc committees that can come up with actionable solutions.
Staying engaged with local government is a critical civic duty and one that I will carry out when I am your supervisor.
