After 30 years…

After 30 years, we have an excellent opportunity to do right by District 5.

Mid-Term election day is coming up on June 2 and we have decisions to make.

With three candidates to choose from, we should be asking ourselves – what skills do we need on our board of Supervisors for a successful and productive decision making body?

To provide services needed and be effective, we must create a balanced and achievable budget, and then have the fiscal expertise and courage to stay true to what’s best for District 5 and Calaveras as a whole.  After reading every board agenda for over 20 years, and attending each of those board meetings along with two dozen other county and community meetings, I learned so much while also being witness to each D5 Supervisor and their sad lack of representation and leadership.  We can and must do better.

I have known Bruce Giudici for many years and have found him to be a trustworthy man of conviction, superior leadership and courage.  Bruce is a man of excellent character, with focused and determined fiscal expertise, impeccable work ethics, love of family, community and humanity.  Regardless of where you live, it matters who serves on our Board of Supervisors.  We need Bruce!

Please check to confirm that you are registered to vote.  You can do this online at https://voterstatus.sos.ca.gov/ .  Any questions or concerns, just call the elections office at 209-754-6376. Let’s take charge of our future and elect Bruce Giudici for D5 Supervisor. When Community Comes Together Magic Happens! Thank you.

To envision, allocate, organize, complete

Dear Editor,

The current race for District 5 Supervisor includes two men who have been the District 5 Supervisor before and one man who has not, Bruce Giudici. The two prior supervisors failed to address many local problems during their time in office. Here are a few examples.

District 5 residents continue to deal with the congested Highway 12/26 intersection in Valley Springs. The County has planned a bypass for that intersection since 1975. Over fifty years later there is still no bypass. In the meantime, bypasses and truck routes have been completed for both the City of Angels and San Andreas.

Flooding on Cosgrove Creek damaged many homes in 2006, and a subsequent report identified tasks the County should do to address the flooding. However, no flood control district was formed, no flood control project was completed, flood control maintenance on Cosgrove Creek was repeatedly deferred, and homes were damaged again by another flood in 2023.

Timely economic development in District 5 is often delayed by the need to address impacts to federally designated threatened and endangered species. In 2006, the County began a countywide Habitat Conservation Plan (HCP) process to streamline project approvals but the project was abandoned. In 2019, the county’s General Plan again promised to complete an HCP, but, despite the availability of state funding, the County has still done nothing.

This year, the County missed its January 1, 2026, deadline to update its Open Space Plan, which places new permit and project approvals on resource production land in legal jeopardy not only in District 5 but throughout the county.

We do not need a Supervisor who is good at complaining about problems and coming up with excuses for his inaction. We need a Supervisor who can envision realistic solutions, allocate necessary resources, organize people to take action, and complete important tasks on time. You know, govern. For the sake of all of us who live in Calaveras County, I hope the District 5 voters figure out which candidate that is.

Three reasons

A great quality for an elected official is the passion to serve. Bruce truly has a servant’s heart, as demonstrated by his many years of volunteering on the board of several nonprofits over the past forty years.

Another quality high on my list is knowledge, experience and competence. Bruce has twenty-five years of fiscal management of multi million-dollar budgets.  His expertise will be invaluable in creating and managing the county budget to bring it into balance.

Just as important as the other reasons to vote for Bruce is his commitment to strong ethical and transparent operations, and connection with constituents.  Bruce will hold weekly hours to give him an opportunity to meet with people in D5 to hear concerns and ideas on how to move forward.  Bruce knows we are stronger when we are connected and work together.

Bruce is clearly the best choice.  Vote for Bruce Giudici.
